Secrets for Avoiding the Vacation Sunburn

vacation sunburnWe have all seen the people who come back from vacation and look like giant lobsters. Or maybe you have been one of those people? Follow our tips to make sure you don’t become the walking punch line at work.

We know you are not going to stay out of the sun while on vacation but if you don’t want to be sunburned you may want to. Alright, we know for a fact that it is not going to happen, so at least try to stay out of the sun during peak hours. Those peak hours are 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Although you may think you want to spend the afternoon in the sun, you may want to rework your plan. You can visit a museum or do some shopping, maybe even grab a nice lunch during these hours.

Another way to avoid sunburn is to make sure you properly and adequately apply sunscreen. Also make sure you are applying the proper SPF, SPF 45 and higher is most recommended. Make sure you apply the sunscreen before going into the sun, also reapply when you get wet or when you feel like you may need another layer.

Don’t forget the important but often forgotten areas that may get burned. Some of these areas include behind and on top of your ears, around your eyes, on your scalp, and your lips. You do not want to apply regular sunscreen to your lips, lucky for you they sell chapstick made with SPF. So make sure you are covered before you head out for your fun day in the sun.
