The Benefits of Sun Exposure

Why you'll want to soak up more sun If you’re heading to Madiera Beach, then chances are you’re going to be out in the sun a lot. While too much sun exposure can be a harmful thing, getting just the right amount can bring you several benefits. Just be sure you’re wearing the right sunscreen as you’re soaking up those rays.

Vitamin D

As many of us know, we mainly absorb vitamin D from sunlight, which, studies have shown, is incredibly helpful in developing stronger bones and healthier teeth. Other benefits include: reduced risk of multiple sclerosis, less chance of the flu, heart disease, and osteoporosis and a lower risk of breast cancer. On the contrary, vitamin D deficiencies can lead to muscle pains, respiratory diseases, and gum bleeding.

Skin conditions

If you’re not wearing your sunscreen, you’re going to get some nasty sunburns, even risking skin cancer. However, with the right amount of sun exposure, your skin could actually benefit, and we’re not just talking about a nice tan. People who suffer from psoriasis, eczema, jaundice, and acne could all find relief in their symptoms by stepping outdoors for a few more hours.

Mental health

A lack of sun exposure is linked with drops in our serotonin levels, a major factor when it comes to mental illnesses such as depression or seasonal affective disorder (SAD). However, by increasing your exposure to sunlight, you can raise your serotonin levels and help alleviate the symptoms of depression or SAD.

Now that you know the benefits, it’s time to soak up some sun! Rent a jet ski from Woody’s Watersports and enjoy the sunshine!
